FAQ - Questions about Guided kayak outings on calm water

Safe, joyful and supportive adventures for women of all ages! Challenge and empower yourselves while connecting with friends and with nature.

Q: What kinds of events work for a kayaking tour?

A: If you want "Girl time" with your friends, mom's mornings out, happy hour paddles, birthday celebrations, couple time, family outings ... kayak outings can be a great idea for a calm water kayak tour.

Q: Is calm water kayaking safe?

A: Sassy Sisters is safety conscious and our main goal for your tour (outing) is for the outing to be a safe, fun and empowering experience for you.

Q: What should I expect on my kayak outing?

A: When you arrive at the reservoir I will have your kayak, life jacket, paddle and dry bag for your phone ready to go on the shore. I will give a short instruction on how to get into a kayak and how to paddle. Then off we go, as you become more comfortable paddling your kayak, I will give you tips on how to turn and paddle more efficiently.
Midway through our adventure you can have a fun break and have "s'mores on the shore" with story sharing and lots of laughter, the back on the lake for more adventures.
You will have the opportunity to kayak up some mild creeks if you feel comfortable.

Q: What's the best time to go kayaking?

A: Earlier in the day is usually the best. It is usually quieter on the lake, which is nice for viewing wildlife, there is also less of a chance getting caught in afternoon thunderstorms.
But any day on the lake is a good day!!

Q: What if I tip my kayak?

A: Most of the time we are kayaking in water that is about knee- mid thigh high so you can stand up and I will get you back in. The cockpit where you sit in the kayak is not enclosed and has a large opening which you cannot get trapped in. I have not had a guest tip a kayak in 10 years of sharing my love of kayaking with beginners.

Q: Where do we kayak?

A: You enjoy nature and wildlife on your guided kayak outing next to Cherry Creek Reservoir's protected Wetlands Preserve. Powered boats do not go in this part of the reservoir, so it is safe and relaxing.

East Cherry Creek Boat Ramp

We will be meeting at the East Cherry Creek Boat Ramp.

From Parker Road, south of 225, enter the East entrance to Cherry Creek State Park by heading west on Lehigh Ave.

Pay $9.00 a car at the park entrance.

Take the first left, the road will veer to the right then head straight to the reservoir.
On weekends and holidays, take a left at the first parking lot and park at the Pelican Point Parking lot.
Walk toward the reservoir and you should see Kayaks on the shore.

On weekdays take a left at the second parking lot into the East Boat Ramp parking lot. Drive to the far end of the lot and look for Kayaks on the shore.

Safe travels, see you soon!

Daily pass into the reservoir is $9.00/car.

If you are kayaking with others:
I recommend parking at Furniture Row ( now called FR) located at the NE corner of Parker and Quincy at 4102 South Parker Road, Aurora Co 80014
Meet in the SW corner of the FR parking lot.
I recommend getting back on Quincy then take a right onto Parker at the light. Cars are going fast and it's harder to get into the far left lane to turn into the park if you get onto Parker road straight from the parking lot.
